Description
11/6/26 - For sale is a U.S. Model 1860 light cavalry saber with its steel scabbard. The Model 1860 was adopted to replace the heavier Model 1840 "wristbreaker," and its lighter, more manageable blade made it the standard saber of Union cavalry troopers through the Civil War and for years afterward. This example has the classic brass three-branch guard, a leather wrapped grip bound with twisted brass wire, and a curved single edged blade with a fuller. The brass guard has a mellow patina, the grip wrap and wire are intact with wear, and the pommel cap shows heavy wear. The blade shows patina and light spotting along its length. The steel scabbard retains both carrying rings and the drag, and has obvious heavy patina and pitting covering the whole scabbard. An honest Model 1860 light cavalry saber, complete with its scabbard. Please see photos for details.
