Description
10/19/26 - This is a very rare DWM Luger that was delivered to the Dutch East Indies Army (KNIL) in 1913, according to the date on the top of the barrel. These pistols were designated the M.11, or Model 1911, by the Dutch. It has all matching numbers and the unmarked, coarse grips associated with these guns, and it comes with a Dutch magazine. The pistol has nearly all of the blue remaining, but these guns were routinely refinished every six to seven years due to the tropical climate. Overall, the blue rates about 96-98%. The brass plaque on the left side is marked "Mgd.Pd.31", indicating that the pistol was issued to the Medical Corps at Padang Hospital (West Sumatra); the 31 is a weapon inventory number. The Dutch crown proof is visible on the right side of the receiver, and the safety is correctly marked "RUST". There is some freckling under the blue in some areas, and some pitting on the frame under the grips. The bore is shiny, but the rifling is smoothed down throughout (5/10). It comes as a rig with a rare, original M.11 East Indies Army holster marked "Z (in a circle) / CW / N / 7 56 / A L". The holster was made by the Artillery Construction Workshop, which used the CW marking; "N" stands for new construction (post-1939 variation), "A L" is the inspector's mark, and "7 56" means it was made in July 1956, indicating that this gun survived the Japanese occupation and remained in service until at least that time. The circle Z is not explained. ("The Dutch Luger", Bas J. Martens & Guus de Vries) It also comes with a Legacy Collectibles certificate of authenticity.
