Description
7/16/25 - The following is a good example of a German M42 helmet that was brought back by a veteran after the war. The exterior factory paint is mostly intact, and the German Army decal on the left side of the helmet is visible with only minor chipping and appeared to have been lacquered at some point. The metal on the exterior of the helmet has areas of patina throughout, and two areas of concentrated oxidization near the dome. The interior of the helmet has significant patina throughout and rust on the back by the brim and around the steel band that holds the leather liner. The leather liner is intact and the leather is firm and not malleable. There are signs of wear especially around the brim, but it is mostly free of surface cracking. The interior of the helmet is also marked with the name of the veteran and the date that he picked it up "Burnett, LJ May 12, 1945". The chin strap is also fully intact and the leather is soft and malleable. There is also a German name stenciled on the rear brim of the interior of the helmet "Koschutzke". Made by EF, size 66, lot #9840.
