Description

4/10/25 - This is a rare Papa Nambu made in the early 1920s. Most Papa Nambu pistols were Navy issued and marked with an anchor. This one was a private purchase by an officer, as indicated by the lack of anchor marking. Made in the Tokyo Arsenal. Comes with one period-correct but mismatched magazine. It also comes with the original copy of the WW2 capture paperwork that lists this gun by serial number and names the American GI who captured it, Kenneth Shaffer. Our consignor did research on this GI and found some information that is included in the photos. You will see Kenneth Shaffer's Registration Card, his Enlistment Record, and a photo of his head stone. The gun's original finish rates about 94%. While there isn't a ton of actual finish loss, there is noticeable spotty brown patina throughout and heavy pitting on the grip straps. The left grip is numbered but mismatched, the right is un-numbered. The rifling in the bore is a bit worn with pitting throughout.
