Description
11/4/26 - This is a cased U.S. Army Commendation Medal. First authorized in 1945 as the Army Commendation Ribbon and converted to a pendant medal in 1949, the Army Commendation Medal is awarded for heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service. The bronze hexagonal medal features an American eagle with outspread wings and a shield on its breast, grasping three arrows. The reverse reads "For Military Merit" with a blank panel for engraving. It hangs from the green and white ribbon with a pin back, and comes in its blue presentation case marked "United States of America" on the lid, along with two ribbon bars, one of them a darker variation with clutch backs. The medal is unnamed. The medal shows light toning, the ribbons remain in excellent shape, and the case shows light handling wear. A nice, cased Army Commendation Medal with its ribbon bars.
