Description
11/4/26 - This is a cased U.S. Purple Heart medal. Established in its modern form in 1932 on the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth, the Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces wounded or killed in action, and is one of the most recognized American military decorations. The medal features the gilt heart with a purple enamel center and the profile bust of George Washington, topped by the Washington coat of arms with green enamel leaves. It comes in its black presentation case with gold "PURPLE HEART" lettering on the lid, along with the matching ribbon bar. The brooch is still wrapped in its original cellophane. The medal is unnamed and unnumbered. The medal, ribbon and enamel remain in excellent shape, and the case shows light handling wear. A nice, cased Purple Heart in excellent condition, a fine addition to any U.S. medal display.
