Description

12/23/24 - This is a Colt Pocket Model of 1848, known the "Baby Dragoon," manufactured in 1848, and featuring a 5" barrel. This example is serial numbered 6822, making it an early type 2 variation, distinguishable by its oval cylinder stops—a key feature found between the earlier Type 1 models (with round stops) and later variations (with square stops). This example is in very good condition for its age, with crisp markings. It is all matching, including the barrel, barrel wedge, frame, trigger assembly, butt, and cylinder. The roll-engraved "Ranger & Indian Fight Scene" on the cylinder retains about 20% visibility. The metal has retained very little of its finish, but the metal is mostly smooth and shows minimal oxidation/patina. The silver brass plating on the trigger assembly and backstrap is mostly intact, with some dings and handling marks throughout. Excellent mechanical functionality, timing is flawless and lockup is tight. Bore shows minimal rifling, and is heavily pitted throughout. Grips are in very good condition with a seamless fit, though there are some minor dings and handling marks here and there. Antique, so no licensing is required.
