Description
5/22/25 - This is a wonderful grouping of Japanese swords. The first is a Japanese Art Sword or Katana made by Kozuke Daijo Hisakuni, dating to about 1684 (Shinto era). It has a Gunome mixed with Notare temper line. In 2003, this sword was professionally restored and appraised by Patrick Giacobbe Japanese Art Sword Restorations. The listing includes Patrick's letter, fact sheet, and appraisal of this piece. In the appraisal, he states "Japanese Samurai sword mountings consisting of a hilt wrapped in white silk ribbon covering gilded dragon menuki with plain iron warrior Fuchi gana Kashira and gilded Shitedome. A Tsuba of Iron in Bamboo motif of the same ear as the sword, and a sword sheath lacquered in fine red Japanese lacquer with black lacquered horn accessories and gilded shitedome. The Tsuba, signed by maker Goshu Hikone, is gold over iron. It depicts a nobleman with horse. (See photo of Eldred's Auction). The fact sheet has a photo of the makers marks and lists more details about the sword and its maker. This listing includes a WW2-era Japanese officer's sword that has a wooden blade with its original scabbard. It also comes with a leather sheath and an original wooden black hang tag that has some kanji writing. This listing includes a WW2 officer's sword which was captured with the Shinto blade. The blade is interchangeable with both the WW2 fittings and the period correct Shinto fittings that come with this sword. The officer who surrendered the blade wrote his identification on wood in hopes of getting the sword returned after the war. This piece, known among collectors as a "capture tag." is included in the sale.
