Description

1/9/24 - This is the Holy Grail of the trench shotguns, the Ithaca Model 37 made in 1942. It is estimated that only about 1,400 were issued and far fewer are in collectors hands today. This gun is in the proper serial range of 61038-61856. The barrel and receiver are mismatched to each other but both correctly within this range (61501 receiver, 61422 barrel). Given the closeness in serial, it seems likely this occurred during the war/shortly after production. It is maker marked on the barrel as seen in the photos and flaming bomb proofed on the receiver, showing it was accepted into the US Military. It comes with the original heat shield and military bayonet lug. RLB marking on receiver indicates it was inspected by Lt. Col Roy Bowlin. Single brass bead sight on bayonet adaptor. Barrel has 12ga and 2 3/4 inch markings. Plain walnut stock with no cracks, just a few dings. The listing includes an original and correct 1917 bayonet with scabbard. It's made by Remington and in good condition. Comes with original WW2 leather sling. Also included is a vintage box of Remington Kleanbore shotgun shells, and a vintage three piece cleaning rod. This gun is also listed in the Ithaca shipping records as going to the commanding office at the Augusta Ordnance Depot on 7/3/1942.
